Motion artifact issue

I attached a link to the logo that I'm trying to add motion to.

This is running at 29.97 fps. It looks very fluid and correct when I play it in Motion. When I add the graphic to the end of my commercial, it looks bad- sticky and non-fluid.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make this "animation" look better?

The original jpeg is 4800x2709 pixels.

What is your sequence settings in FCP? What codec are you working with?
Make sure Motion settings are at least same with your FCP sequence settings.
Motion-->Edit--->Project Properties. I'd suggest to work with an HD set-up in Motion.

Also when you export the project:
{File-->Export} click on options. Under Video/Audio tab look at your compressor codec:Most probably you are on animation codec, I prefer Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2.
Next to Video/Audio tab you'll see the Output tab: Unclick the 'Use Çurrent Project and Canvas Setting'. Now click on the render quality and select 'Best" (default is normal)

Honestly the motion of your graphic so simple that doesnt require the use of Motion. In FCP you can esily do that movement too, if time is essence.

The file you uploaded to vimeo was interlaced

If your target is web, you should be using progressive

Most websites don't support 60p (most only support upto 30p) , so you will lose fluidity or temporal resolution

Thanks very much VGurcu-

I am trying to convert my 16:9 HD footage to 720x480 SD footage- so I tried to generate the motion sample in SD.

So I assume you regenerated the motion sample in HD, placed in the FCP HD sequence and the problem is solved?
I'd suggest first import the HD motion logo into your HD FCP sequence then use compressor to do the downconversion(unless you have a hardware converter such as Matrox) . Thumb of rule is always do your motion work in higher quality, remember conversion process will further degenarete your graphics. (especially if your target distribution is DVD)
In theory you can first downconvert your HD footage to 720x480 (remember to de-interlace) then import your uncompressed 4:2:2 progressive motion logo and render it. (target is web video)

My target is actually cable television- would you change anything based on that?
Comcast here does not accept HD local commercials yet.

No I wouldnt. Stick with the first option(DVD) except you dont need to compress further to MPEG2. {Do not worry about de-intrelacing anything} Check out the channel's delivery requirements.
