Most tasteless film in history?

I didn't watch the trailer because I'm at work, but if Uwe Boll directed it then it's safe to say it will probably suck. I've seen a half dozen of his films and the only one I'd grade higher than a C- would be Rampage.

BloodRayne, BloodRayne 2, Postal, Alone in the Dark.... All terrible. House of the Dead was one of the most laughably terrible films I've ever seen. (Not so bad it's funny either. Just so bad that it's borderline unbearable.)

Oh god. I only read the first two posts. Why would you even ask that?

Lets think positive, shall we?

Up until now, people have found a lot of joy in making fun of Uwe Boll and his films. Now, by giving the holocaust the grindhouse-torture-porn treatment, people (like me) are going to downright turn on him.

Not a very positive thinking thread is all I'm saying. I mean, bashing, wtf?

I'm just saying of all the things we could talk about, bashing people, well, aint cool man.
Not as a thread anyways. Yeah, sometimes you have to say your piece, but, man, cmon.

We can talk about something else.

The angle's not even original. Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS beat him to it by decades.

Do you know who Uwe Boll is? Do you know the kinds of movies he makes?

He makes trashy horror and exploitation films, mostly based on video games.

He made a movie called Postal that begins with a parody of United 93 (the flight on 9/11 where the passengers fought back), but set from the point of view of the terrorists.

Auschwitz itself was responsible for over 1 million deaths. The Holocaust should never be turned into an exploitation film.

I'm sure he was talking about this bit...
"Oh, what!? No!" -- My literal reaction. Unnecessary last shot in that trailer for sure. I feel dirty. I'm going to go take a shower.
...which I personally think was an unintentional "punchline" on djbobby-bob-bob's part. Hell, it wasn't a Callaghan post after all (that ****ing insensitive cad).

At least the trailer didn't show the scene with the two guards leaning against the door to the crematorium and one guard says "Yeah, but it's a dry heat."

I couldn't find anything on Boll's imdb page about this movie. Doesn't mean that it hasn't been made, but I wonder if everyone is freaking out over the wrong thing. How do we know it's going to be torture porn with Auschwitz as the setting? The images were incredibly brutal, but that was the Holocaust. There's no way to sugar-coat it. Bottom line is, we're seeing a teaser trailer with no context. I never thought in a million years that I would ever defend Uwe Boll.

If it's made, I'm sure you'll hear about it. But let's also consider audiences are fair-weather in general. Like at the convention when people saw the trailer for "Devil" and everyone loved it, then the name M. Night Shyamalan popped up and everyone booed. A bit hypocritical if you ask me. Boll may not make good movies but his reputation is basically trashed by gamers who don't like his game adaptations. This is a double sided coin. If not for this he'd probably not even be known, but everyone hates the man because they don't like his films which they can simply decide to not see. I actually thought "Alone in the Dark" was entertaining, but then again I'm a fan of Slater and I don't really play the games. I'm probably missing something. It's like people who tell me "Superman Returns" was good and I look at them like their idiots. But they're usually not comic fans, just superhero movie fans.

As far as this film goes, who knows what he's aiming for. We're judging a person based on the fact he made bad video game movies. That doesn't make him a bad person. Maybe he wants to do a serious piece. He has that right. Maybe he is simply just making tourture porn. I'd hope he'd be more respectful, but if any name but his was on it, the conversation would have to totally different tone. If you didn't even know who made it, you'd want to know or may even be moved by it. But we really don't even know if it's a movie yet.

While it's true that Boll may surprise us and make a legitimate, artistically sincere portrait of the horrors at Auschwitz and not an exploitation film...he's more than earned the benefit of non-doubt. His appearance in the trailer itself does not bode well.

Well, if you're a director and also an experienced boxer who beat up bloggers and film critics just because they don't like your work - even if it's in the ring but especially if they didn't know the seriousness of the fight - you have to kind of expect to live with a certain reputation.

Making bad films doesn't help.

Putting yourself in a trailer dressed as a nazi guard killing jews just puts him into the WTF-category, and I think he knows this. If this film and this trailer wasn't about Uwe Boll more than it's about the film itself or whatever message he might or might not try to put in it, I don't think it would be designed that way.

To me this just looks like "well if they won't love me I'll make them hate me" attention seeking stuff and if there's any kind of serious drama or message or point to this film, it's not in the trailer.

It's the perfect cameo for Boll. It almost feel Hitchcock in the way it's presented. Don't know what that says about the film, but that's the way I saw it.

Well most directors are attention seekers, that's why they make movies. And again I say, if this film was made by anyone else (the same exact trailer) people would at least give it a chance.

They trash the man, he beat their butts and now it's poor bloggers. Goodness knows bloggers are all goodness and light. In actuality some of those bloggers enjoyed the fame they also got from the fight and talked about it. In the clip below Lowtax doesn't seem so upset. But listen to what he says, "Half of us haven't even seen his movies." So why are they boxing him to begin with if they had no stake in it. ATTENTION! They're seeking it too. But some of the matches are awesome. I'm not a big boxing fan but some of the matches went over pretty well. And I used to read "SomethingAwful" and I think it's okay for Lowtax to take a few blows. LOL.

Here's a bit of the Lowtax fight:

This guy did a little better and actually lays into Uwe but he too goes down:

That's a cameo? He got more screentime than anyone else in that trailer.

And there's nothing wrong with being an attention seeker if you're a director. On the contrary.
But using the holocaust to seek attention is in poor taste to say the least.

The boxing thing is school yard maturity. It accomplished nothing except make him look even less sympathetic.

And now he says it's the web bloggers that need to grow up

Really?

I actually agree with him about the bloggers. They create villains out of people for very small reasons and then jump on bandwagons and can make or break people without even knowing anything about them or their filmmaking, so he's on point there. And can we simply admit, the boxing was pretty fun.

Sorry. We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

He may be going for that Oscar. But seriously, people do seem to love a film he did called "Rampage." I don't hate his films. I just don't enjoy them. Most of the hate thrown at him comes from video game nerds. His non video game films such as "Tunnel Rats" and "Rampage" do have a base. He's been very articulate about what happens with the video game film. He gets ten million and the production company wants a hundred mill film back. I liked "Alone in the Dark" but keep in mind I never played the game. I do know Far Cry was on cable recently and looked like something I would watch in the 90's.

This trailer was hard to sit through. Ironically if I didn't know it was about the Holocaust and someone said it's the new zombie film, it would've been like, "Whatever." The guard at the door tells the whole story (I think that's Uwe actually) human life is being destroyed and he's like, "I need a nap." But that is the level a group of people sunk too at one point in human history. It's real life and it is scary.

I don't know the director's motives, but he did a good job of making me cower at the though of watching some of the trailer. I'm not a big gore fan even though I do like some horror films, but I know that's all BS. This was based on real events and I didn't want to face that. If that's what he wanted to do: Mission Accomplished. Even though there wasn't a ton of gore or any of that I simply didn't like what was going on in that room as the camera moved through that hole. The actors did a great job if nothing else. Great juxtaposition between the guard and the prisoner. For me the trailer was effective.

But because of that I probably would never see this. I like movies where people take out vampires or zombie or menacingly evil bad guys. I don't like seeing real suffering or depictions of it (particularly when they're this graphic). Ironically Hitler is one of the villains in some of my up coming stories, so seeing this makes me want to write those stories more. But all we can really do is make up stories about taking down Hitler before he causes "more" trouble, but we really can't erase what he really did.

Nope. I don't believe it... I don't... nobody could possibly like any of his films aside from watching them solely to mock how terrible they are..

You are pulling the wool over our eyes nathyn.. there is no way you liked alone in the dark... I simply cannot believe.

my mind has officially been...

BOGGLED.
