More Sony Cameras for September?

Here's info on the EA50M. It appears to have a new zoom lens with a constant F4 aperture (nice!). The sensor may be new, perhaps one that doesn't line skip.

I knew about the PDW-850. It was announced months ago.

No clue what the NX3/1 is.

That lens is not new, it is the Sony 'G' lens that had a TON of 'pillow' distortion on the FS100/700.
It worked on the VG20/30 and the EA50 because their higher megapixel 'still' chips allow for
error correction. I am not sure this means anything new about the sensor.

Thank you

I was looking at the specs and unless I overlooked something (I'm tired) it looks the same besides the lens. I guess since it's packaged with a different lens, they can call it a different camera model now.
The constant F4 is an improvement, but it's only 105mm vs 200 of the original EA50

The lens may not be "new" per se, but pairing it with the EA50 as a kit from the factory is "new."
You're probably right about the sensor.

That does look interesting...how does it compare to the pmwx70 that was just announced?

If you're referring to the X180, the X70 has a single 1" sensor and will be upgradeable to 4K, eventually. The X180 has three 1/3" chips and will be 1080 only. The X180 also has a timecode in/out port, which I find essential in my broadcast work.
Also, different memory cards for each camera.

Yeah, got to look at the 180's specs later at home. Looks nice, probably wouldnt buy anything myself that cost that much if it werent 4k or upgradable at this point. Would go cheaper or used.

So dissapointed in Sony's "new incarnation" of the EA50... It has the potential to be such a great camera, but being stuck with HD, poor low light performance and AVCHD is a real bummer. Can't wait for them to release the A7S in the EA50 form!

If it were 4K, had greater sensitivity, and had a better codec (e.g., 10-bit XAVC), wouldn't it kinda compete with the FS700 or F5 but at a much lower price point?

Yeah the EA50 is such a great body and nice to use. It's a shame they don't make a higher end version of it. It's so much easier than frankenrigging a box and easier than the standard handheld form factor also. Plus it looks great. People really comment favorably upon seeing it.
Yes it would hurt the fs100 and fs700 but if the price was close it would still all be money going to Sony.

Panasonic should make a camera like the EA50.

Looks like Sony was forced to play catch up to Panasonic's AJ-PX270PJ. I attend a church that just bought the Panasonic cameras. Best zoom and focus on a one piece camcorder ive seen. Total control. Now Sony is doing it too at a cheaper price/different codec than P2. It's about time they stop giving us crap to work with in one piece cameras with attached lenses. The Sony HXR NX5U is totally useless outside of full auto mode (we have 3 of them at work and stopped using them after a couple months of agony). Hopefully this new Sony camcorder will live up to expectations.
