More HD Editing Madness...

I plan on adding the HVR-Z1U to my setup next year, and I want to make sure I have the proper equipment to edit the footage with. First and foremost, I need a monitor that will let me see my footage in all of its HD glory. I currently edit on a Sony SDM-HS95 running at a max resolution of 1280x1024, but would like to add another monitor to view the final product as I'm editing, as well as look at the raw footage I got before I edit it. Will another SDM-HS95 do, or do I need to look at something else? I guess I'd prefer something widescreen. Is there a certain resolution I have to meet to be able to see the footage in HD? Thanks a ton.

Damnit Janet! Take a look at Sharp's LCD monitors.

Better yet, buy a DLP projector, and use that to watch preview. Nothing would be cooler than seeing your footage on a 10-foot screen.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't' really need a projector, cool as it would be. I really need something that can fit on my desk next to my other monitor. Any thoughts?

Well, you can buy a 16:9 lcd monitor that suport 1440x1080 or up and use it like preview monitor. I think it will be no problem to get one around 21"

Doesnt have to be. And 1140x1080 is 16:9. You dont necesarily need that. You could get 4:3, and strect the timeline across both, and have the rest of the new one filled with widescreen video.

Well, I thought Z1 recorded in HDV and its resolution was 16:9 1440x1080. So if it is correct and you are not going to scale the image, so you need a monitor that suports 1440x1080, or a 4:3 monitor that, via software can play this resolution with black bars.

From what I know:
1080i HDV is 1440X1080 internally, but the codec will bump it back to 1920X1080 and this is what Vegas will show.

You can typically look on hot deals sites for deals on LCD computer monitors.

A broadcast monitor would be more ideal, but they cost a lot more. I would stick with a computer LCD now and wait until prices on those monitors drop / quality getting better. You're going to have trouble delivering HD now anyways, so it would make sense to hold off.

Could I get a monitor that supports 1440x1080 and be able to watch Blu-Ray movies on it as if it were an HDTV?
