MORE footage from John Brawley showcasing the pocket cam.

The Nikon style batteries last about 30-40 minutes.

Thx.
That's not much though. I hate my interviews to be interrupted. Guess external power will be needed for this kind of work...

For a in pocket cam, a light package it kinda defeats the purpose carrying 10 batteries around:)

Im glad that John is the one working with Black Magic and doing some testing, I really like his style, his minimalistic approach is exactly what we need to see how this camera really performs In real world shooting situations. I like to see what im able to achieve with just the camera and some sticks. I already know this and damn near any other cam can produce a beautiful image on a controlled set with 100k worth of lighting, set design, ect.... Hence the reason these are my favorite tests. Nice work John!~!

I think Black Magic is down playing the pocket on purpose. They don't want to lose sales of their other cameras. Of course once it gets into the wild then they will have to deliver.

It is very possible. First JB posted his observation that the BMPCC visually seemed to be nearly indistinguishable from the BMCC, including resolution. Then the next day he posted a barrage of several observations that there had to be a decrease in resolution. Contradictory, but consistent with your explanation.

The original Black Magic camera is awesome. For what I do it would be perfect. But - I do want to get a pocket camera first. Black Magic should come up with some bundle deals. Buy a black magic Pocket Cam and get $250 off the original Black Magic camera. Or buy a Black Magic camera and throw in a Pocket for $750….Having the option of shooting ProRes would work for 80% of what I shoot. I do industrials and some spots. I have no interest or desire to shoot 4K. My work is here today and gone tomorrow. However - I will check out the Black Magic 4K camera with interest.

That would be just stupid on their part.
with all the players in this (large sensor) market playing up is what you want to do. Degrading your own product is a suicide in such a crowded field.
And I'm convinced BM is far from stupid- they have grown tremendously due to their business savvy....

It would be very stupid to make customers wait a year for ordered cameras. It would be very stupid not ship the MTF cam and not say way. It would be very stupid to introduce new cameras when the old backlog is huge. It would be very stupid to not have a proper supply line for sensors before basing your product on them.

AT THE SAME TIME, it woud be very stupid to introduce a camera as a fraction of the price of competing products. It would be even more stupid then to introduce a $1k version of a $3K camera that they could have charged much more for. It would be stupid to hide NLE editing within a color correction program and then not advertise it. It would be very stupid to use generic media rather than repackage it and charge more.

Conclusion, it is very stupid to predict what BM will do. They don't follow rules.

The above mentioned faults are not stupidity, but rather inexperience and practical consequences of it.
The strategic moves are the result of deliberate marketing campaign. It may not be accurate but that has nothing to do with the strategy- completely different aspects of business...

"Stupid is as Stupid Does," Forrest Gump.

"They don't follow rules." Exactly . . . (and thankfully so).

Conspiracy theorists . . . gotta love 'em!

I'll gladly wait an extra year for the BMPCC ...especially if BM delivers it in great working order at the pricepoint they promised....unlike other camera companies that kept us dangling and then cut the rope ! Building these cameras ain't easy . It's a lot easier to just slap down your creditcards !

I would like to add my 2 cents to this thread, If i think back to buying my Canon 550d with all its limitations of 12mins or recording, its jello, overheating , 1080p 25fps etc..... and I still use it today and has paid for it over and over, I would be very happy to buying the BM pocketHD, If you look at the cost, HDR of 13steps , its clean hdmi out, 2 different codecs , etc ......... I would have no problems in spending $1000 even with some of the limitations it has, this camera is not a RED or GH3 or what ever , if you look what you are paying for it it is very good valve. Even though I will want one ,I will wait and see, for some time before I buy one, as some times products do not live up to expectations or flop.
