More BASIC questions about DVX100A

¤If you want to film 16:9 format, is it nescesary to buy an expensive (700$) 16:9 conversion lens? I have filmed with a pd170, 16:9 format, there you just change the settings to 16:9 and you film and I think it looks good.

¤If you have an dvx100a NTSC, do you have the possibility to film 24p and 30p? ...and if you have, witch one do you use. I mean 30p is for USA TV ok I understand that, but 24p is cinema.

What I am trying to get at is even thoe I am european I could buy the NTCS and film with 24p which is standard cinema-film.

Still confused about alot of things ???

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

If I'm not mistaken, standard film in Europe runs at 25 fps. Isn't that right? So the PAL version of the DVX-100 should be fine.

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

Oh, maybe you are right :P

I thought that ...

By the way I've read the answer to my other question in other topics that talks about the exact same thing.

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

In europe, theatrical releases are still 24P to my understanding. When they're transfered for television broadcast, in PAL, they speed up the 24fps to 25fps to match it with the PAL standard...but the actual frame rate of 16mm and 35mm film anywhere is 24fps...

Truth is though, you'll not likely be able to tell the difference at all!

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

24p is the standard, however you can overcrank film cameras to run at different rates to apply "slowmotion" and you can film at 30p if you wanted, however the normal is more like 60p and 100+. Film is always progressive.

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

Americans shoot at 24P for the film look.

It is my understanding that theatrical film is shot at 24fps in Europe as well. Film for television is shot at 25fps.

Theaters worldwide are standardized at 24fps, although there is apparently much variation, you could see anywhere up to maybe 26fps if the theater owner thinks he can shave a few minutes off the runtime and squeeze another showing in! ;)

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

in israel is depends what show you are comming to see the last one run between 25-26 :-)
there is no problem to shoot 25 and do slow down 4 % , almos every hd moovie i did was shoot 25 for isier working flow and the final mix for teatre was fix befor the film transfer

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

So are u planning to blow out to film...permartinengman?

Re: More BASIC questions about DVX100A

16:9 mode is fine as long as you stay on TV. if you want to blow it up for filmrelease then the anamorph adapter would gain you quite some pixels.....
