More AVCHD camcorders coming from Panasonic

Cute but we're all waiting for the AVCHD version of the DVX and Panasonic knows this so tell the Pana crew to knock on my door when it drops. You give me Panasonic 1080i/720/24p AVCHD plus cheaper but good tapeless workflow and they've got my dollar. 1080/24p is good too but I'm fine with 720p. Do this also mean we can use the camera as a deck and not worry about the heads.

i really don't like that little pro avchd camera

i hope they release a DVX replacement before i buy a dvx

would they really make a cam like the dvx though (with the hvx still on the market)

i mean the form factor is already filled, just not the price range

would it be more likely they release a DVC30 type camera

or are the 4:2:2 codec, 100mbps, and variframe enough, to allow the HVX to not be threatened by an avchd dvx?

or could they even put variframe in it, with that new solid state avchd from sony that allows 3secs of overcranking panasonic might have to through in some slo-mo rates

it'll be interesting to see if/when canon makes a cam the records avchd

as they'd be more likely to make a big xl type cam b4 a little one like what pana did

i really want to see just how far this new codec can be pushed

Sure why not? As said before, people who want what the HVX has to offer won't take anything less than DVCpro HD. What will sell me is how AVCHD handles fast motion. People said HDV couldn't handle fast motion without artifacts and that turned out to either not be so truthful or maybe the original footage/codec implementation just wasn't so good, but I've seen some great HDV stuff and if AVCHD is everything they're telling us it is then I'm ready for the HDVX100. I will buy this camera if it does what I need.

Replacing mini-DV. PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS. PROFESSIONAL BROADCAST IN ALL GENRES. Panasonic will be announcing additional product releases in the AVCHD professional range.

This sounds big.

Jan said no AVCHD DVX was in the works. Here's hoping this new compression scheme is changing Panasonic's mind.

Jan, Barry, any news if and when?

My money'$ waiting.

The difference between AVC/HDV and DVCproHD and its benefits is enough to not threaten it. OTher wise EVERYONE would have bought a HDV competitor instead of an HVX in the last 2 years.

What Panasonic should do is replace the DVC30.
  • It should use three 1/3.5 CCDs with a pixel count of 1280x720.
  • A bit rate of 24mbps
  • Have selectable video setting including 1080 60i, 720 30p and 24p for both resolutions. If possible they should also add 720 60p.
  • It seams unlikely but if they can keep the same body size of the DVC30 they should also add 1 or 2 P2 card slots. If not then you might as well have 4 SD card slots.

yea but, 1280x720 chips will produce low quality footage.

The only reason the JVCHD100/200/250 can get away with it is that they use "2" chips seemed together. and the by product is the Split screen issue. There is no Free lunch in the 1/3"ccd market. The HVX/A1/HD200 are about as good as they are gonna get in the 1/3" form factor. Sony made the right move and produced a 1/2" chipset for theri next gen, Vari-framerate-HVX-answer, the XDCAM-EX. They are moving in the right direction.

TimurCivan,

I’m talking about a DVC30 replacement, not an HVX200 replacement.

Besides, here is my HVX200 replacement post.

Here is a quote from the article:
“Panasonic will be announcing additional product releases in the AVCHD professional range, continuing to offer real IT, real HD, and real flexibility.”

I really hope Panasonic shows us a true replacement for the DVC30 soon.

I’ve said this in other forums already but in case you haven’t heard it, here it is:
Canon will unveil an AVCHD camcorder by June.

i wonder if it will be consumer of pro

maybe somewhere between the hv20 and A1, and then see how the market likes it

or will they dive right in with a big XL, if this happened then it FCP would have to get their arse into gear with the edit support

i wonder if avchd is hard to implement into an NLE
i know it always takes more than twice as long to encode mp4 h.264 files, than any others (but they always look better and take up less space)

I agree I hope to see a replacement for the AG-DVC30. I'm in the market for an HD camcorder, just sold my AG-DVC30 and the gear that went with it. Theres a gap in the line up and I hope they fill it with something that blows the doors off the competition. I have no problem paying an extra dollar either. As long as it offers an HDMI port or better to tap into an uncompressed stream I would be stoked. I'm so torn in the HDV area over the V1 or A1 that I just don't want to buy anything. I hope Panasonic delivers the goods and keeps a loyal customer.

Tim just want to point out that that issue was only seen in the HD100 which was corrected by a software update not too long after the fact.

Im sure Panasonic would eventually have a product on the shelves that fits in underneath the HVX. Although prior to the HVX there was nothing sitting in that position. Perhaps we will just see an AVC version of the HVX in future?
