Montage Help

I been putting together a bunch of montages recently and realized that I don't have a clue as to "best practices".

I've tried searching around a bit and couldn't come up with anything substantial on the Web.

Does anyone have any good tips, resources and/or examples?

Do you mean how long to show each shot, whether to scroll and zoom etc?

It does depend somewhat on the context, e.g. is the sequence telling a story, what is heard (music, narration, whatever)

Thanks for the responses, sorry if my question was confusing.

I'm putting together montage sequences usually along with a song that I feel like captures the event/occasion.

I know some basic stuff like cutting on a beat and pacing the shots along with the rhythm of the music. But this assumes that you always pick the song first (is that usually the case?).

I apologize if I'm generalizing the process of creating a montage, I know it's not that simple. Maybe a better question to pose is, what's your process of putting together a montage?

I'm going to be experimenting a lot more and just trying stuff out, but was just checking to see if there was any sage advice from you folks.

Here's a recent montage video that I put together (I'm just starting out, so it's not very polished at all...): http://vimeo.com/9552918/
