Monsters - 35mm adapter film on the big screen

So I went and saw Monsters last night. I know there are some threads about the film on here, but I wanted to give my impression now that it's screening in limited theaters around the country.

First, I'm thoroughly convinced that 35mm adapters still look fantastic. I'm pretty sure the theater I was at showed a film print of the movie. Wow. Gorgeous image. Everything was sharp and detailed. I was impressed how good it looked up on the big screen coming from a 1080p original source. 2K, 3K... who needs it! 1080p really is good enough for cinematic quality images.

Now, it certainly helps that the Sony EX3 the director used has full raster 1080p. But I'm wondering if he used a Nanoflash or something to capture 10-bit files. I imagine that would have also been beneficial considering all the special effects.

So, does anyone know whether this guy used an external recorder or do you think it was straight to SxS cards? Did anyone else see this in theaters?

The real question is: how would it have looked if it had been shot with a DSLR or one of the new large sensor cameras. I believe the adaptor look may actually be better.

Well, certainly the Letus + EX3 combo trumps all the HDSLRs in terms of detail and sharpness (plus lack of moire, aliasing, etc).

Which new large-sensor cameras are you thinking of? I'm actually looking forward to seeing some of the first features shot on an ARRI Alexa.
