MONSTER DVX Problem

Ya know, every now and then people do things that are incredibly stupid and they end up paying the price for their ignorance. Allow me to tell you the story of a filmmaker who, in his haste, thought there would be no issue with placing a 16 oz. Monster® brand energy drink in his Porta Brace bag alongside his DVX100A camera.

After a quick zip through a fast food drive thru, this poor fellow reached in the back of the production van to unzip his camera bag and retrieve the sweet concoction encased in aluminum. Upon grabbing the can and pulling it from the bag, it was discovered that the can was much lighter than when it was placed inside. Further inspection revealed two small punctures in the can from which the energizing syrup of life flowed. Where did it flow? All over the DVX100A and all over the bottom of the bag. The drink got all inside the tape transport and heads of the camera.

I'm going to pay the $320 clean up bill now and pick up my camera. Merry Christmas to me. :(

Just because of this incident, I'm officially boycotting Monster. I'll just drink more whiskey.

I did the same thing with a can of coke. i put it in the bag that was like a semi hard case so i wasn't worried about crushing it but some how the litle screw driver that i leave in my bag for just in cases punctured the can and it all spilled out. I was lucky that it didn't get far enough into the cam to do any damage but the bag was shot. I tried washing and that just made it worse.

Yea... Food and cameras are a bad combo. I think someone spilled a coke in one of the Empty Portabrace bags, but it didnt have a camera in it :-/

Since I managed to get sand in mine, not just any sand, mind you, but Good old Roswell Alien Sand, where did you send yours for De-Monstering? No Uranus jokes, please...

Also, is there an official zip lock bag for these things or do I make one out of saran wrap?

I'll see Blaine's comments and raise you one more poo poo.

That really sucks and I hope it comes back better than new. Or maybe this is just a sign that it's time to upgrade to an HVX. I hear it has Monster repellent built in.

Hang in there. 2007 is a whole new year.

Some people (like me?) see or try to see accidents before they happen. Like me asking my son NOT to have the studio mic I loaned him laying on the floor, OR not to place the FC recorder on a tilted pile of CDs.

Reminds me of a co-worker who thought carrying an opened mineral water bottle in her purse (with a cell phone, passport etc.) was a good, normal procedure...

****........... when I use my soft carrying bag I often put my drink in the back. Never again.
