mono to stereo?

picture a guy who doesnt know anything about sound in filmmaking. well thats me. when i record sound straight into my camera (dvx), the sound is only on the left side of my head phones, of course. how do i make it so its in stereo, so it sounds full, both sides?

thanks, sorry for the stupidity.

i use an oktava mk 012, into the dvx, editing on vegas.

The Oktava is a mono microphone. I assume you are recording to only one channel, hence you hear only one channel in your camera headphones.

In your editing program you should be able to set the balance for center to output on both channels, if that is what you are asking.

Did you want to do this while you're shooting or later in post ?

I suspect the question is more about the camera...and why sound is only coming from on channel. In this case you need to check your three switches. 1=switches on the front of camera to mike/line=mike. 2. switches under lcd: phantom power to Octava. 3. switches under lcd: Input-1 and Input-2 configurations for Octava and on-camera mike [recorded at same time for ambiance.] or have the octava recorded to both channels at same time. Take your pick!

You most likely have the audio only coming in on Channel one of the DVX thus the reason why it only shows up on the left, is most editing programs default channel one to the left and channel 2 to the right. Open the audio editings tools in Vegas and you should be able to change that.
