Mono Compliant

How do I make Vegas project mono compliant?
Delivered project this week, burned packaged and ready to do.
Then I discover there are two audio channels on one track.
One is shot gun boom mike,---other wireless mike,---which was to be backup only.
Not thinking when I edited I guess.
Now sound guy is having a bird,---says I should recall all 200 of the first batch and make them mono compliant.
Everything I've played project on seems OK even an old Sony DVD player,---usually an acid test,---eg if it plays there it plays anywhere.
Sound guy is concered that some machines improperly wired up,---may do some weird phasing stuff,---maybe play BG music higher than dialouge
Seems to me that's not my problem any more than if a client plays my DVD and it's green 'cause his TV isn't properly calibrated.
Any thoughts,---?
Hate to have to recall all those DVDs.
What would you do?

Thanks David.
You'd think I'd know that.

What of importance of making projects mono compliant.
This 10 minute project is not for broadcast,---being sent out on DVD,some VHS tape, some CDs and streamed from website.
Is this a big concern in your opinion?

Never given it any thought. Unless it's a problem like you say where you actually have two different audio streams in your channels, I can't see it would be much of a problem.

There's an issue with 5.1 surround being mixed down to stereo causing problems, but I doubt the same issues apply from stereo to mono.

But then, I'm not an audio guru.

You can test it by doing the following:

1. Duplicate the audio track with the two channels of audio to a new track
2. On the first track, select the audio events and change the channels to left only
3. On the second track, change the audio events to right channel only
4. On the master faders, click the downmix button until it is in Mono mode.
5. Try different combinations of the Invert Track Phase button on the two audio tracks.

This will let you hear the output with in and out of phase mixing down to mono. If the volume changes dramatically when changing phase, then you do have a potential problem for mono listeners.

Randall,--Thanks. This is just the info I was looking for and will file it for future reference.

You are welcome Peabody! Another option that I use is the Ozone mastering plugin. It is a great mastering tool and has switches for checking a mono mix by inverting the left or right channel. I use it as the last effect on the master bus.

It can be found at http://www.izotope.com

Thanks again Randall,---just downloaded recommended software from iZOTOPE! Will give it a whirl.
