Hey!
Site rules, thank you for setting it up.
Any suggestions, monitors, 4 to 6 hundred dollars, flat screen, 17 to 19 inch. I love my eyes and would like to keep them. Hope all is well. Just ordered my system from DVline wtih VV4+DVD. DVX100 on the way. Can't wait to fire it up.
Thanks again.

Re: Monitors, My eyes are sore, please help meee!

Welcome,
Dell is having a sale at the moment on their 19 inch Ultrasharp LCD monitor for $649 - it rocks! This is a re-branded Samsung SyncMaster 191T. I know this, because I have the Samsung and just bought the Dell for my guys at work. They are identical except for a silver face on the Dell Bezel. The Samsung in all black looks better to my eyes, but the screen itself is identical. 1280x1024 native resolution, both DVI and Analog connections. Very bright, sharp, snappy image.

The Samsung is available at Best Buy and probably many other places. I bought mine at Best Buy so that I could return it if I didn't like it. Dell also has a good return policy.

Best regards,

I have a viewsonic 17.5" TFT that can be had for about $499. It has a contrast ration claim of 600:1 which is the best out there, and is the only model that has a contrast that high.

Re: Monitors, My eyes are sore, please help meee!

You can almost ignore specifications on contrast.  Judge only by your eyes.  I am not saying that the viewsonic does not have 600:1 contrast, but that it has been shown that almost all vendors use their own magic when measuring these things.

I believe it was Thom's Hardware that pointed out the wide variation in specifications between different vendors.  This is why you really need to see monitors in person to make a critical choice.

Now, if you have third party verification that a particular display is "the best" in any category, that gives the specs some credibility.

The fact that Zoomforce likes the Viewsonic is a good indication of quality.  I suspect that there are probably several vendors with equal quality, since Viewsonic buys their panels from some major manufacturer that supplies others as well.

In addition, brand is not a sure bet. I have a Dell branded 17inch monitor (not called Ultrasharp) that seems to be sourced from a different vendor. That 17 has far less contrast and brightness than the 19 inch Ultrasharp/Samsung.

Caveat Emptor.

I am very pleased with my Princeton Graphics 19" LCD. Excellent shaprness, brightness an contrast. In fact, I bought two for $600 at Costco, but you have to be a member.

Hey I forgot to mention that if your eyes are sore It could be that your refresh rate is just too low on your monitor, No matter how nice your monitor is if the refresh is too low it will hurt after awhile.

Re: Monitors, My eyes are sore, please help meee!

Viewsonic here, but mine is only 400:1. There is a big difference.

I think Zoomforce is talking about the pro 750 that is the only monitor made that has real contrast. Good luck finding one for sale still, as they replaced it with a consumer version.

Re: Monitors, My eyes are sore, please help meee!

My two cents worth. Just make sure your monitor has a refresh rate of 85 and above at the resolution you want to work in.I find working at a refresh rate lower than 85 gives me sore eyes.
