Monitoring HDV with a Intensity Card

Intensity features HDMI-in for connecting to cameras and digital set-top boxes for the highest quality capture. Get higher quality capture from HDV cameras by capturing direct and bypassing the HDV compression chip, for high quality video, captured direct from the CCD. Because edit software cannot play back to HDV cameras for monitoring, Intensity is ideal to use for monitoring uncompressed HD or HDV and even DV edits on the latest big screen televisions and video projectors by connecting to the built in HDMI-out.

So does this mean that I can view hdv on a hdmi capable monitor for color correction even if I am not using a hdmi camcorder. Example shoot with Canon A1 in 24f capture footage to my mac computer, then play out the timeline to a hdmi tv to view for color correction? Am I correct in my thinking?

Also can I monitor other video formats with the intensity card such as dvcprohd? It is listed in the pdf for the intensity card as a supported format? Thanks

It wouldn't work with the A1. Intensity is HDMI in only and A1 doesn't have an HDMI port. You'll need a card with component in.

Or you can just attach the A1 to the TV using component.

He's not talking about HDMI-in...he's referring to monitoring.

Nik, yes it allows you to monitor HDV and DVCPRO HD to an HDMI-equipped HDTV.

It means you can live-scrub the timeline and watch it on your gorgeous HD set.

well what I am saying is if the hdv footage is already on my computer why do I need the camera hooked up at all? How can the Intensity card tell where the footage cam from? The footage is going out from the intensity card to the TV right? Then I believe the hdmi camera is not needed to monitor the footage right? I hope? Anyone know because I see that the Intensity Card has 2 hdmi ports on it 1 for input and 1 for output.

Thank you Young Wise Elton! I was hoping that is what was happening. I am very happy now. I typed the above statement as you were typing yours. Thanks!

The Intensity card works like the Kona card on a Final Cut HDV or DVCPRO HD timeline. You can simply go to View/All Frames and you will have the Blackmagic option to view output externally. (presumably via HDMI)
