Monitor?

I'm in the market for a 24 inch monitor, that would be accurate to do some editing on. I'm using FCP on my macbook pro, and a Dell 24 on loan ( about 3 years old). was wondering what is out there that is affordable, but good quality.

If I was flush $ i'd go for the Apple LeD... is that the best bet for accuracy?

Suggestions welcomed.

Accuracy? Computer monitors, in the EDITING world, are just there for you to see what you are doing. They can be set to be color accurate for PHOTO work, with calibrating devices like the Eye2One. But for color accurate VIDEO monitoring, a computer monitor is NOT the way to go. The fact that FCP lowers the quality of the image in order to play it back at a good proper steady frame rate is one thing (Avid does this too), and another is that COMPUTER monitors aren't calibrated to display the VIDEO gamma.

Just get some decent computer monitors, Dell 240x series, Acer... Apples monitors are overpriced, IMHO.

And for accurate judging of your video, you need a properly calibrated broadcast monitor or really good TV...and an HD In/Out device or capture card.

while I'm at it, if I WERE to look for a little TV device that can be properly calibrated, what should I look for? something fairly small... and, will I need an output device like the avid Mojo ? ( i've got FCP and a mac book pro)
 
Yes, you'd need a product like the Matrox MXO, MXO 2, AJA Io HD or AJA Io Express. If your MacBook lacks an ExpressCard34 slot though your options are more limited.
