Monitor Resolution

What's the minimum pixel resolution for a monitor to be true HD? I'm looking to buy the cheapest external on camera monitor i can get while it still being true HD. I'm just not sure what the minimum resolution for true HD is.

The monitor will mainly be use for focusing my HVX and I have a budget of $1000. As of now I'm trying to decide between Manhattan, Marshall, and SmallHD but I don't know if i should go with the lower resolution Manhattan or Marshall that give me a couple of other focusing features, or go with the Small HD which gives me a lot more pixel resolution but by what I can tell no other features. Any suggestions on which I should get will be much appreciated.

You've fairly pinned down the conundrum, and I myself am betting on the marshall lcd70p, as it can do 1:1 pixels via a button, while the others cannot.

While the other choices ARE HD, they are only 720p. If you want to have pixel perfect focusing with the 720p offerings, you're stuck going through a menu to enable 1:1 on the Manhatton, and as far as I know the smallHD has no 1:1.......now with the Marshall you can have 1:1 at the push of 1 button, so while it may have a lower resolution then the others, you CAN have pixel perfect focus in 1080p...you just push one button and you're looking at an enlarged chunk of the screen.

With the Manhatton you can do 1:1, but to get it you need to go into the menu, enable it, then focus your shot, then go back into the menu and turn off 1:1 to continue using the monitor normally.....of course you COULD keep the Manahtton in 1:1 and use the camera LCD for framing(if it has one).

Johnny, our HD8900 and HD089C has the same number of pixels has SmallHD's DP1 (true HD). the order of pricing: HD089C = $699, SmallHD $799, HD8900 = $999.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post back. It has been a tremendous help.

Nick If I understand correctly, are you saying that to be able to focus in 1080P only the Manhattan and Marshall have the options to do that via 1:1 pixel options and the SmallHD doesn't? Or can the SmallHD still focus 1080P seeing as it has very high resolution? Sorry about all the question but this monitor choice is really making my head spin. Now again, I mainly need a monitor for focusing but I'm also trying to get the most bang for the buck. I'f I can get a monitor that does great at focusing but also gives me some other features then I'm all for it. Thanks again guys for the input. I appreciate it.
