Monitor / Recorder for 5D Mark III

Mainly a stills photographer who enjoys making videos, but still waiting for a proper 4K-capable camera that fully interests me (no rush). In the mean time looking for a monitor+recorder that I guess would revive my 5D Mark III a bit.

Was interested in the Atomos Ninja Blade for its low price, monitoring tools (would be super helpful), and ability to record ProRes to SSD (don't want to buy CF/SD cards), but would it be worth putting down extra money for an Atomos Ninja Assassin (but I prefer 5"), or a Video Devices PIX-E5H (love!)?

Thanks!

Adding a recorder to the 5D will not raise the image quality.

You will still only be getting 8bit in new wrapper. I would call it wasting money.
If you really want to boost your 5D you'd get more from shoot ML raw... Although also more work and storage requirements :)
