monitor output from vegas

I output the video from vegas to my monitor via my video camera. When I output a file that has no transistions or effects at the highest quality possible setting I get choppy pictures and it says its recompressing. I have a fx5200 card. I just wonder is this a graphics card issue or is there a setting on vegas 5 that I'm not setting correctly?

It's not a graphics card issue. The card has no effect.

Quite a bit could factor into what you're seeing -- are you matching the project to the footage? Are your video files on the same drive as your operating system? Is the drive your files you're using nearly full? How's your processor speed? How much memory? Are you running other software in the background? Do you have your video scopes on?

My video files are on a seperate drive to the operating system.
Processor is p4 3 Ghz, 1Gig of RAm.
No scopes on. No other programmes are running at the same time and no scopes are running and my computer is dedicated to video only.
The footage is shot in 25p as I'm in pal land and I havent deinterlaced or done anything else with the video display settings.
Like I said there is no fancy transitions or rendering. I'm just playing back an avi file.

I assume you guys here get smooth playback at highest quality settings so I'm not sure if its a playback setting.

I don't know if this applies to output to a camera but I don't see why not? Vegas is only set to 16mb of ram dedicated to video preview so if there stuff going on then you should go to options | Preferences | click on the video tab and depending on how much ram you have in your system set it to 25% (personal preference) if I'm doing something that takes lots of memory to output I almost always have my preview set to draft and since I have 2gb or ram I keep this set to around 512mb and get perfect motion, even though the video looks pixelated ( i sometimes check by switching it to full ) but usually it doesn't matter for just editing..... in the end the resolutions will stay at full it's just for preview
