monitor on apple

Hi

I'm thinking of expanding my editing equipment with Apple gear and FCP. I'm now used to Pinnacle Liquid edition which has it's own break out box for a live preview on a monitor. Can anybody explain how this is done on an apple (I-mac or powerbook/mac book pro?). Does it require a separate card or anything for output on a monitor? I really hate having to buy 'extra hardware and cards' afterwards and just find how and whether it works. I just want to go into the shop and buy a fully running system. How do you guys do this?

Ooh yes, and any other suggestions surrounding a purchase of Apple and FCP that I should take into account are welcome :)

Cheers

If you want the BEST fullscreen quality out to a broadcast monitor, I would highly reccomend the AJA product line. I have the Aja IO LA and get 8 or bit uncompressed payback to my 20" Sony PVM monitor.

Thanks guys. Do they have these cards in Apple stores as well that you know of? I'm pretty tired of my pc where I have to reconfigure this to be able to that without the other thing is having trouble...And then I have to order another card and download 3 drivers again...

Has any of you ever had that kind of weird stuff with your apple, or does it just simply always work? That's the image I have of Apple now, that you just buy it and it works. But is that really true (as far as humanly possible)?

I just want to edit you know... Knock knock knocking on Apples doorrrrr...

I've used Mac for a long time now and the only drivers I downloads are the updates to my printer, other than that it's been a hassle-free ride for me.

Now, granted any computer can have issues, but you have less to worry about with compability with Macs, generally when it says it will work, it will work. Generally, I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule.

The Apple stores don't tend to carry any of the more exotic cards/software.
Do a search for dealers, there might be a high end edit dealer near you where you can get a demo.
Apple's do pretty well at plug and play, especially compared to PC.
However any complex card or app may have some snags to setup. Not typically but it happens. The main thing woudl be t check the card manual and make sure you understand how to configure the settings to use it.
