I've been using a TV to do CC and it is awful.

I know everyones Tv is different but the results I'm getting are so varried it's insane and killing me.

What do you suggest as the most cost effective monitor for CC work.

Keep in mind I'm poor.

bigups y'all.

NTSC joke. Funny.

I calibrated my TV but I still have problems.

I guess what I'm asking is for a particular montor that is trusty and cheap.

Rook -
What do you consider cheap?
Give us an idea of what your budget it....
"Cheap" means different things to different people - a 'cheap' monitor is still going to run you at least a few hundred dollars I would think.

The cheapest monitor I've used is a JVC 17" which runs about $400-500 I think.

(well, I guess the CHEAPEST would have been a TV which I guarantee you was worse than the one you're using - the day the tube finally burned out was probably a blessing in disguise)

My biggest question is how do I calibrate my monitors? I have two of them that are totally different in color and they both are different from my tv.... : (

by cheap I mean 300 and under.

Thisiswells, thanks for the tip. I'll look into it. The problem with my cheap-o TV is there are not enough options to fine tune the calibration.

(BTW luis- why ya all dressed up now?)

I have been wondering about this for a long time. I have a 19" Sony Trinitron Pro Video Monitor, but I cannot seem to find anything to adjust hue, etc. Can someone help me out?

It's going to be nearly impossible to find something new for that price that is worth your money. Looking at B&H the cheapest thing I see is still over $450.

I would recommend maybe looking for something used if that's the price you're going for. Or possible getting a better TV instead of of Video Production monitor.

Ideally - you should probably wait it out and save up some more money.

I don't know - do we always need a reason to dress up?
:)
I just thought it was funny.

Another option is to find a medical version of the Panasonic 13" industrial monitor.
If you can tolerate the white color, you might get a good deal on one!

Only the pro level (expensive) monitors are gonna have delicate hue adjustment, tho.

Silverwolf - I've got the 13" version of that monitor.
It's not bad - I've got no complaints except for it's lack of a blue only button.

If you're looking for low cost - this is about the lowest priced monitor on BH that I found that I would suggest. It's the 15" pro version of the one you pointed out.

So it has a slightly smaller screen, but includes some professional control
(i.e. blue only). It also has the ability to take component and SDI input/output cards which you can add later on if need be. Not a bad deal.

Luis Caffesse , thanks for all the feed back dude. You've been really helpful. Actually thanks to everyone.

Looks like the only option for me is to look at used gear. I hate messing with used gear but it looks like that's the only option right now.

rook, try your best to find a local used dealer, or see the monitor before buying it. Bad monitors are the easiest rip off, since it is easy to shoot a bad pic of one and post it on ebay. You can't judge it, and the guy says he doesn't know how to take a better one, because the flash always pops and dissolves the screen image.
