monitor choice

Ok, ok,

There have been numerous threads on the topic of postproduction monitors for working with HVX footage. I have been involved in many of them so I know. But this question is "me" specific ;) and I am looking for opinions from you, my friends.

Faced with the choice of purchasing

1) a less expensive (apple 23") display and HDlink combo

or

2) a more expensive 26" panasonic HD LCD

what would you choose? Money is not the issue here, I am asking because option 1 will give me a true 1080 display but not a broadcast quality monitor. Option 2 will give me built-in waveform, calibration etc, but only 720 resolution.

WWYD?

Okay, you will definantly have a better experience with a professional, genuine broadcast monitor. The acd+hdlink is basically a poorman broadcast monitor. If i had the cash i would definantly go with the panny.

are you working on a mac? the matrox MXO out to an 23"ACD is getting rave reviews over at lafcpug.org

I'm using an MXO with both a 23" Cinema Display and a Panasonic 17" LCD and I actually prefer the Apple monitor.

I personally use the MXO with a Dell 2405 and am very pleased. I have also worked with an MXO system that also had the Panasonic 17" going out SDI from the MXO. I was really hard-pressed to tell the difference. The Panasonic LH1700 did seem a little more crisp to me, but I can easily see how Mark (in the post above) could prefer the Apple.

I have the panny and its amazing - and so well built for location use - if you have the money get it

The Panasonic does have a better image. But I've calibrated it over and over and have never been able to get the color right. Now, I've never put the Apple monitor next to a CRT and compared footage side by side, but the Cinema Display (through the MXO) gives me a pretty good idea of what to expect when I go down the hall and view it on a CRT.

With the Pani Bt monitor your talking way more money , they only advantage i see is the scopes built in .

The MXO with an Apple Cinema Display set up correctly was pixel for pixel on the Pani BT moitor.

Here is your break down , now that the Ver 2 of the software has been released for the MXO you have Proc Amp and Blue gun in the prefs.

For the money and ease of use i stick with my MXO and a 23 in ACD over the Pani BT 17 or 26.

Another things is the Pani Bt tends to be a little green , which is def noticable.

cant beat it for 999 , but im sure street you could find it for less at some resellars.
