Monitor choice

I know this has probably been hashed to death but I'm thinking of going with 2 X 23" Apple displays for my new Mac Pro and want to use a Mxo unit for broadcast calibration.

Any reasons I should be thinking about a different monitor or say go with one apple and another for colour correction?

I had been thinking about the Dell 2408 for cost but I've heard enough feedback that suggests there is regular problems with these.

Any input is greatly appreciated,

Tai

Apple stopped making the 23" ACD back in November so I think you'll be hard pressed to find one new. I have one 23" ACD and one 2408. I got the 23" ACD so I can couple it w/an MXO if I need to do HD color correction. I got the 2408 because it was relatively cheap, had lots of ports/slots, and can easily be rotated into portrait mode. The color of the 2408 out of the box is horrible and many of them (including mine) is unevenly illuminated, but I didn't buy it for accuracy so I'm not worried about it.

Thanks, that sort of clarifies things. Apple has refurbished 23" ACD so I might go that route as an option.

Adkimeri,

Does the Mxo allow for calibration of your monitor or do you use another calibration unit as well?

The MXO has software that mimics the controls on b'cast monitors (blue-only button, contrast, hue, etc.,) so you just feed the monitor color bars and use the MXO software to calibrate the display.

My .02…

I've got two 24" Dell 2408 displays and haven't had single issue with them and my Mac Pro. They worked with the MXO (when I had it) and you can't beat the price. I also really like how adjustable they are, which you don't really get with the ACD models.

Stephenmick and markyf,

Do you have the A00 or The AO1 revision of the 2408 monitor as there seems to be some complaints with the A00 but perhaps its only stands out as feedback is usually more on the negative side than positive. People don't give as much positive feedback unless its in one of these forums.

Glad to hear the 2408's are working well.
