I have problem that i am trying to get my brain around. I have mac pro with dell u2410 i am hobbyist who shoots short films my question is the monitor calibration worth it for web delivery? since all our screens are not properly calibrated so what the point?. I am thinking of buying i1desplay pro and calibrate my monitor to REC 709 so i can color correct my video to something that is close to broadcast levels again if it is for web what is the point why not just use sRGB PRESET on my monitor. Reason i am asking is should i spend money on i1 or a good lens?

Thanks guys

The point of calibration and accuracy with any monitor ( visual or audio ) is that the closer to accurate / flat your reference is,
the the better your work will translate of other systems, even if those other monitors aren't accurate.

From another post

I'm not saying people shouldn't calibrate, but at its best, all you can do is make sure that YOUR equipment and software provide the same results at all times, you can not guarantee that someone looking at your work calibrated to the same standards as you. Calibration has nothing to do with cross system display quality. It simply can not. And that is why I think a lens in this instance will provide more to the OP than calibration equipment.

Yes. It has nothing to do with quality.
Quality and cross system translation are 2 different things.

I believe rgb or adobe rgb or srgb (some kind of rgb) is the web/computer standard. Rec 709 is for broadcast hd like for tv or i guess dvd/blu ray distribution. So you want to calibrate to the color space youre delivering in. So if its for web only, you want the web/computer standard (some kinda rgb).

The point of calibration is to give you the BEST chance of stuff looking MOSTLY right for MOST people, as opposed to an uncalibrated image which could look great for you but miles off for everyone else.
