Monitor and another question.

I have a JVC hi res production monitor (TM-h150C) and have noticed that footage that appears normal on FCP canvases seem to be overexposed on my monitor. I tried playing with brightness, contrast, ect. and no luck. Anyone know why this is happening... Also, captured some footage from vhs (originally 8mm film) into fcp and I am noticing some significant banding. (if that's the correct term) I captured through my DVX, and my settings were dv ntsc 48khz. My sequence settings are for 24pa (as most of the project has been shot)... any thoughts?
thanks

don't blame the monitor for being too bright... calibrate the monitor and correct from there. how brightness and color looks in the canvas window means absolutely nothing. even though it looks correctly exposed in the canvas does not mean it was correctly exposed.

Yeah, if anything footage looks darker on a computer monitor than on a b'cast monitor/TV (at least in my experience).
