Monitor - advice needed please!

Please help. I am about to cut a feature doc on FCP, and my editor has told me I need a special graphics card to output video to some fancy monitor. I had planned on using an LCD Monitor, just some generic brand, and maybe hooking up my HD (1080i) LCD tv as a second monitor. I now worry that this will not be good enough for judging colours etc. This rig will only be used for offline.

Any advice, hints comments??

Thanks.

The built in graphics cards will send a signal to any monitor with a DVI connection. NO need for a fancy monitor. Or is your editor talking about a reference monitor? One that displays your cut full screen? For that you need a CAPTURE card. But if this is only for offline then you don't even need that. Unless you want to see the image full screen. Then you can use your LCD TV. But you will need to connect it somehow. Does it take DVI in?

Thanks, I think I have it figured out now. If use digital cinema desktop preview, and output to a monitor that has a resolution of 1920x1200, I should get a relatively decent reflection of what the footage really looks like. I think. Anyway thanks for the help.

DCD is fine for a preview, but I wouldn't trust it to judge image quality or use it to do any sort of color correction.
