moneybookers.com question ASAP

hey guys. I have found a seller who wants to sell me his electronic Roland TD-20 drum kit with sound module.

He has 0 ratings on ebay and the price is farily low. Only normal for me to be very weary about purchasing or sending someone like this money.

I wanted to know what your guys's take on this is: Does it sound legit and does anyone here have any experience with it?

here is my e-mail to the seller:

"Just as a safety precaution i would like to know the answer to a few questions:

1) Are you the primary owner of this kit and were you the first owner?
2) When and where did you purchase this kit?
3) Are there any issues with the quality of the equipment, including the sound, electronics, physical damages (cosmetic or functional), which would make it incapable of performing at the same quality as a new electronic roland TD-20 drum kit and sound module?
4) would what you would ship be the exact equipment shown in the pictures? Could you also provide serial numbers so that the item being shipped is the item displayed for reference (photos as well)
5) is all the wiring included and do they perform at the same level of quality as if they were new, regardless of cosmetics?
6) For both of our protection, do you agree that the only method of payment in which we should establish would be through Paypal? Securing myself incase the package is either not delivered, or not as advertised, as well as you incase of payment problems.

Please understand the circumstance that you have 0 activity with ebay so any potential buyer might be weary. These questions are to ensure, if purchased, that i receive exactly what is expected without any ugly surprises which would render the sale a scam, with many tiring actions to follow.

Thank you again and i look forward to hearing back!

here is his response:

"Hi Jon

1. I'm the original owner.
2. I purchased the kit at 6/10/07.
3. The kit is in perfect working condition with no damage.
4. The kit is including all you can see in the pic's.
5. All the wiring are included and in perfect working condition.
6. Regarding the payment I want to make the transaction thru Moneybookers. This way you will have the opportunity to inspect the items before you actually pay for them. I'm saying this because you will have a maximum 14 days inspection period. You will send the money to Moneybookers and they will keep the money for us. As soon as Moneybookers has the money I'll ship the kit to you.
Moneybookers releases funds to the Seller once the inspection period has passed without the Buyer requesting cancellation of the transaction and upon Moneybookers verification of the transaction information. The inspection period is agreed to by both the Buyer and the Seller and commences once the Buyer has received the items. Funds are released to the Seller the same or next business day after completion of the transaction and upon verification by Internet Moneybookers Services.
As soon as I have your full name and also your full shipping address I will open a case at Moneybookers and they will give you step by step details on how to proceed with the deal and to make the payment.
Thanks,
Shahan"

i asked him where he was located so I am hoping he writes back and doesn't say hes from nigeria or some other scam infested area.

Is this what moneybookers can do? Does it make sense that i would be allowed to inspect the item before paying for it? how would that work? I don't understand how i could put X amount of dollars online and have it just floating there while inspect the item, and then when all is clear, to just click send. Does it make sense, am i being too paranoid?

i need some help ASAP if anyone is willing. Very greatful for any help i can get.

In my opinion it is fraud. Usually in all cases that I have experienced, nearly experienced, or have heard about, when the buyer or seller insists on doing the transaction through another company rather than paypal it tends to go wrong. I have never heard of moneybookers and personally as a seller I trust that my product would be working and as listed and would not need a waiting period for the buyer to inspect. Also, I would never send the product before receiving the payment. Just my opinion though.

Sounds like a scam. RARELY does a seller do something for the benefit of the buyer. Notice how he said, "This way you will have the opportunity to inspect the items before you actually pay for them." I have made many eBay transactions and they never once made an offer like that. Typically it's either "AS IS" or "You have 3-5 days to return the item if you are not satisfied." But the seller ALWAYS gets paid first.

And if he really wanted to help you then why wouldn't he use your suggestion of PayPal? That option protects him and you.

This is highly unusual and raises a lot of red flags. My guess is he'll never ship the item and the funds will be released to him immediately.

Don't do it.

thanks guys, told him no thanks... what a shame, great price for nothing lol.

How expensive is the drum set? skams are typically for big dollar stuff.

Here's what I would do, suggest another 3rd party escrow, if he insists on monebrokers then that's a bad sign.

the kit new, after taxes, in store would be 6400 canadian.

he was offereing a used one, he claism to have had for a year, for $3100.
