Money

Every year, just about the time the leaves start falling, I have an urge to put on Dark Side of the Moon. And it stays on repeat until about mid December. That's when my wife says that we have to listen to Christmas music. :(

Has anyone experimented (heh heh...) with syncing Dark Side of the Moon with The Wizard of Oz?

I tried it twice in my long career of tomfoolery and didn't get anything out of it. It was like...Watching Oz while listening to dark side at the same time. Maybe I was supposed to do some kind of drug to enhance the whole thing?

I did it a long time ago. There was some interesting "coincidences" from my memory of it. Some of the timing was really ironic, but it didn't strike me as oh, my god. That is amazing, or that is definitely on purpose.
Plus, what do you do when the record runs out and you still have half a movie? It's kinda ruined at that point.
And we did it on vinyl by the way.

AW MEMORIES OF MY STATION WAGON WITH MY 8 TRACK BLARING PINK FLOYD AND ALL MY NEW FRIENDS FROM LAKE WALES FL. SAYING "WOW! WHO IS THIS BAND?" ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOWS AS A CLOUD OF SMOKE FILLS THE AIR, SOMEBODY YELLS OUT "WHO ATE ALL THE SHROOMS" AS THE FOOT STEPS GET LOUDER AND LOUDER! THEN LAUGHTER GOES FROM ONE SPEAKER TO THE OTHER AS MY NEW HICK FRIENDS SCREAM AND RUN OUT OF THE CAR THEN I PROCEEDED TO RUN THEM DOWN ONE BY ONE AND YES I TOOK THEIR SCALPS. 1974 THE DAY I ARRIVED FROM WARWICK R.I. to hicksville

That was totally kool. Thanks for the link.

Made a DVD a year or so ago. Not too bad. Also made a disk graphic.

You know I still haven't forgiven my mom for not letting me go see Pink Floyd during The Wall tour. Although she was probably right it's one of those things I can't get let go of. I was able to see them both in '88 and '94 and basically ever other concert now is judge on the Pink Floyd scale. I went to Roger Waters' Radio KAOS tour and although it was pretty amazing, it did not have the majesty and awe that Pink Floyd brought to the stage.

As cliche as it is and despite the subjective nature of all art, the debate is pretty much over; Dark Side of the Moon is the most brilliant album of the 20th century. With the corporate state of the music industry it might very well go on to be THE most brilliant album of all time...EVER.

Arguable or not, you know someday your grandchildren and your great grandchildren will all have their moment of "OMG, have you heard this Dark Side of the Moon album, it's amazing"

Three certainties of life; death, taxes, and discovery of Dark Side. :)

Terry, that was a great link. Very interesting. EXCEPT for that guy with the graying hair and dark blue shirt. He was about as interesting to watch as CSPAN. HOLY CRAP he was dull. But the other guy, talking about the processing of the vocals...really interesting $hit.

And, its also one of the best looking (quality wise) You Tube videos I've ever seen. I'm so used to seeing home movies and majorly compressed clips.

I did a search a while back on YouTube for Pink Floyd movie syncs. I thought it was pretty incredible some of the ones that came up.... But I can be easily amused, I suppose.

Early Floyd just didn't do much for me. When Syd Barrett lost it, they pretty much spent the rest of their time dedicating their music to him. It wasn't until "Dark Side..." that I really warmed up to them. I know in HS I had friends listening to "Ummagumma". But it just never clicked with me. Then, seemingly out of nowhere came "Dark Side of the Moon". Of course there were indications that they were capable of this, but to produce such a masterpiece...then never truly follow it up...

But then look how many people (groups) have had that problem...

Yeah, I'm not much of an early Floyd fan, but I did find that whole "interview" interesting.
I have the DVD The Dark Side of the Moon, which includes that interview along with several others that are really excellent. It's actually the making of dvd. If you enjoyed that clip then I highly recommend this DVD.

I knew it was from a documentary DVD, but had never seen it. Thanks for the link, consider it bought.

Just got today (found on eBay). Watching and loving it. Thanks for the heads up link (and thanks to Terry for starting the tread in the first place).

I guess it takes a little chemical influence for one to truly appreciate early Floyd. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

Like most bands of that era, I dig their early stuff the most. The music seems so much more vital. Most bands only have a couple of good records in them, then its all downhill. Don't get me wrong, I really like Dark Side and think it is a mile stone for the band. It's just my friend and I joke that when a rock band hires the heavy women back-up singers, it's all over.
