Money troubles.

Well, the infamous money issues strike again. We have started pre-production on a full feature entitled "The Day the World Ended". Our budget is a very small 1,500. So far we have spent that but we had some of our main backers pull out. So we are down nearly 1,000.

Basically my producer and I are scrambling to find the rest of the money. We have tried local business and such, still waiting on a few responses. We have a place to show the completed film, we have the actors and the props, costumes, and equipment set to go.

Is there something I am not thinking about?

Wait, so your budget is $1500 and you've spent that? Then what exactly do you mean that since some of your main backers pulled out you're down almost a grand? Do you have to pay them back, or was your budget originally almost $2500?

Are you going to make money on the finished film, I mean where you're going to show it? How many seats? Are you going to charge admission? How about DVD sales?
You could sell advance copies, maybe coupons for your premiere, with a copy of the DVD thrown in - a collector's item, signed edition, etc., and raise cash that way.
Otherwise you could have a fund raiser, maybe, but only among people you know.
The SEC has laws about this.

what do you need more money for if you have "the actors and the props, costumes, and equipment set to go"?

Just go shoot it. Seriously, you're short 500 bucks and can't find it? Hit up mom & dad or just go and shoot the thing. If I could get all the actors, props and costumes I neede dto shoot a feature, I'd be off and doing it.

Well the thing was we had backers to cover all the funds. We made the purchases before being handed the money....experience one, me zero....

So we officially have 500 in hand. We have spent 1500. So we are in the red big time. Well for us it's big. Maybe for others its a small amount. I mean we can scrape by, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of any ideas. Emo, thanks for your ideas, I'll try some of them out.

I think what you're asking is "are you ready to shoot?" and frankly yes. Shoot it and hope you sell 300 seats to make up the money so you can eat real food again. I once worked on a student film where the producer fed us well but wouldn't eat with us... because he wasn't telling us he couldn't afford to feed all of us. He made his money back and then some. He got a solid product out of it and I now know he's got the kahoonas to put his soul into what he believes in. Sure, what he did was stupid and completely inadvisable... but I'd work with him again any day.

Best of luck Matty.
