OK i am being paid to shoot a video for a school here in Instanbul Turkey... I am an american, with a NTSC DVX. All tvs here are PAL.

Now i was wondering which would provide good results, or ore importantly if it were possible.

CAn you take NTSC 24P and some how get the NLE to render it as 25P pal?

OR is it smarter to shoot, 60i and convert to 50i. IF thats the case, can Vegas do That?

Now i took a 24p clip And changed the media properties to progressive. then dropped it into a Pal Timeline. rendered it to PAL and made a PAL DVD. it seemed to work, but the image has a weird Ghosting look with motion. like 60i interlace transfered to 24p for a film out.

MY primary question is, is there a way to make it render cleanly. because workign with Progressive footage, there has to bea way to get it to just speed up the clip 2-4% to fit into the 25P Pal structure. I dont care about a loss in rez because the people i am making it for couldnt care less about the res.

I am just curious.

Thank you guys.

Well, here's two things you can try:

To get rid of the "weird ghosting look with motion" you need to disable "smart resample". Right-click the clip, and under switched, choose "disable resample" instead. This will eliminate the frame blending, at the cost of slightly jumpier footage.

You could also try speeding up your footage from 23.976p to 25p by setting "playback rate" (under clip properties) to 1.043. I don't think it is 100% accurate since vegas rounds the playback rate to 3 decimal places (should be more like 1.04270937...), but it does seem to help considerably.

Hope this helps.

i think that the "slightly jumpier footage" is not acceptable. i hate that effect. much better the blurry motion.

anyway i got very good results converting pal <-> ntsc interlaced with canopus procoder and choosing 'always interpolate' in the options.

all other conversion tools i tried were way unsatisfying
