Money, Money, Money! Give what to who?

If I tried to make money off of a short I'd first adequately pay my crew/actors and then think about trying to break even for myself.

If you make the short and put it on your website/reel, you can generate more business and that alone could be worth more than the $150 you could possibly make.

If your aim is to learn and promote yourself, just put it on youtube and tart working on your next movie. It's not an easy business to crack as an independent producer; I've analyzed it to death, and I got nothing workable!

Hmm, certainly content is important... at least those in the adult film industry might disagree with your assertion. And while making money in traditional entertainment is often not profitable, don't discount those who think outside the box. For instance, Alex Ferrari's short Broken certainly has shown he knows how to think outside the box with great marketing, distribution channel management, cost control ($8,000), and novel content features (3 hours of commentary).

Warm Regards, Michael

Robbie I think you should make it and see what happens. If it fails then use it as experience so next time you will be more on top of your game.
