I'm trying to determine whether to return my Quickstream. Our problems might be cable related.

Re: Monday

well i owned 3 quickstreams(1 replacement) from january-april and all 3 were not reliable.  i'm happy to finally receive my refund after waiting 2 weeks.  it enabled me to purchase lights and other accessories instead.  it sucks because i really wanted to save time on capture!  i'm looking at other tapeless solutions buy am still hesitant.  next time, i'm going to purchase a tapeless drive that will allow me to preview my footage.  that feature is a must...

Re: Monday

... which is why I keep looking at the CapDiv and the DirectDrive. Seems like they have all the features, but they're much bigger, have a huge external battery, and cost $900+... I really liked the form factor and design layout of the QuickStream, but I cannot imagine using it and not being able to play back.

I imagine you could bring along a laptop, and plug the Quickstream into it when you need to play back, but that solution sounds a whole lot less portable than just going with the CapDiv in the first place!

Re: Monday

For me, playback would be a niceity, but the QuickStream is so portable, that I would be happy just knowing its recording.

I can tell whether it is or not, but having to cycle the power to get it to work could cause lost shots.......not acceptable.

Next I will try a "solid" firewire cable. Talks with tech indicated that that retractible thing might be the cause.

True, but this was a somewhat reluctant statement made to me, since it was their retractable cable. I'm beginning to think it is a firewire issue relative to the DVX100.

The CitiDisk looks like the same drive in their package. THEY have FAQs. THEY say that there are issues with the DVX100 and possibly Pannys in general. THEY suggest cycling the camera's power with the drive powered up. Somehow, I think I have unsuccessfully tried that.

Re: Monday

The citidisk and the quickstream are the same product... even the lights and operation are the same. The thing is, that citidisk is coming out with a pro version that has playback commands and a little LCD that tells you whats going on etc, but I dont know how reliable it is.
