Mole Richardson tener led

Just give them a call or e-mail. I was just at the Mole Richardson studio for 3 days as part of the ASC Masterclass and we got to use the tener quite a bit. Fantastic light.

Wonder of the lighting rental houses will have those? Would be a great light for larger setups, punched through a 6x6 or 8x8 or outdoors, shining in through a window as the "sun". Very handy to not have to rent a generator.

Definitely interesting. I love where LED is going. But I still have been surprised by the lack of green/cyan/turquoise in the spectrograph readings from most LED units I've seen. Specially since digital sensors rely heavily on those green pixels.

I was previously really considering going the LED route based on power savings, but have taken a step back momentarily to assess whether my concerns over these spectrograph readings are cause for concern in the real world. I've been let down by CRI ratings and am not as familiar with TLCI yet.

In the meantime, I have been very intrigued by Plasmas. So if the tener is a 10k tungsten equivalent, then that makes it roughly between a 4k or 2k HMI. Which means that the 1K plasma would give similar output in lumens, but at a more continuous spectral quality. Even better than HMIs, from what I've seen. And you still get the benefit of working with household circuits.

Not quite. The 4:1 ratio of lumen efficacy of HMI compared to tungsten drops down to just 2:1 as you get up to higher wattages (most likely due to the need for denser and denser UV filtration as the lamps get bigger).

A 10k Tungsten fresnel is more like a 6k HMI Fresnel in terms of raw output.

From the photometrics that I've seen, it looks like the new Mole Tener will offer a similar sort of output. So somewhere in the realm of a 6k HMI Fresnel or a 4k Arri M40 HMI.

From just 1600w, that's utterly remarkable. If the photometrics bare out to be true, that will make the new Mole the single most powerful fixture you can plug into a wall socket by a factor of 2x (compared to an M18 or 2.5k HMI).

If the colour quality holds up, then with the added control offered by 0-100% dimming (without colour shift) this could literally become one of the single most useful fixtures on the market. Especially when the price point should put it cheaper to rent than a 1.8k or 2.5k HMI.

It's such an exciting time for lighting technology at the moment, so many new possibilities are opening up.

Interesting indeed!

Im in the same spot - im curious to see how the Hive Wasp 1000 will compared to a LED tener 10k. I assume similar, but one thing im certain is that LED will get cheaper over time - plasma is so niche that i don't see its price dropping for a while. Wont be long till the chinese make a knockoff Mole tener 10k LED. But im pretty sure plasma lights will stay premium for a while.
