Haven't used them myself just curious if they are used regularly. Cheap to buy for daylight but expensive short life bulbs. Shane Hurlbut mentioned them. More hassle than worth or a good option for special circumstances. The reason I'm asking is I see a number going up for sale shortly (Joseph Finn). Thanks.

If by daylight you mean the dichroic bulbs, haven't seen those in use for many years as they weren't quite effective (a bit warm still). I myself rarely use the single mole fays but do use 9-lights from time to time, they are great for washes or filling up a big bounce because of their wide spread. Along those lines I suppose the single fays would be good for smaller bounces like a 4x4. I generally use theatrical pars rather than the fays because you have some opportunity to add diffusion or gel on the fixture depending on the type of bulb you are using (the narrower ones wil burn through gel pretty fast).

I have a few of these lights single, twos and fours. They're not so bad for a good punch and you can swap out the bulbs (daylight/tungsten)
Two down sides are that they get really hot and bulb life is sometimes limited. But all in all a good cheap punch.
Some people used to call them "the poor man's HMI).

I still have a couple of Mole Fay lights w/Dichroic lenses.

I think the last time I used them was mounted to a twin baby rail for car headlights coming through a window.

Yeah...that reminds me, we used to use them mounted to the front of a picture car when you needed to beef up the headlights and weren't photographing the grill. Between the xenons and LED's in use today plus more sensitive camera, haven't done that one in a long time!
