As I have mentioned earlier, I am completely new to lighting and have a Rifa 55 light, 5-in-1 reflector, and white board. That is my complete "kit". I have the opportunity to purchase the above item at a reasonable cost. My question, would this be a good light to have in a kit. It seems 2k would be overkill for my small projects but am I able to put in, say, 300w bulbs and have it work or do you do that with a dimmer? Sorry if this is a really dumb question but I can't seem to find an answer.

Often a 2k will take a 1k bulb, but I think thats as low as it'll go.

That light is only useful on large sets and punching through windows. Not to mention you often can't plug a 2k into a regular socket because it pops the breaker.

That's not the second light to have on my list, or the 3rd or 4th or 5th or 6th. In short, spend your money more wisely on something you'll use a lot like a 300 or 650.

Thank you for getting back to me wo quickly. I was pretty sure this light was overkill but it is good to get affirmation of that fact from a pro. Again thank you for your input.

This is also known as a "hot" 2k. The key difference between a baby 2k and a standard 2k is the fresnel lens size. A hot 2k will be somewhere around 6", while a standard 2k is 8".

As suggested above, this is a bit large for interviews or very small interior locations, but it is perfectly suited to punching up daylight a bit (with full CTB gel) or for larger tungsten interiors. If you have a courtroom, warehouse, lobby or other big set to light, this fixture will barely make a dent.

Mole Richardson, B&M and just about every other 2k uses CYX (mogul bipost) globes in front of a precisely aligned reflector - a 1k globe will not simply drop in there, it has a different base.

I've got one of those, and it does take a 1k globe. I think in the years I've owned it, it's been used exactly twice. Not exactly the most common light in the arsenal!

Thank you guys. I appreciate the time you take to pass on your knowledge. I think I'll pass on this light.
