Modifying the MIC Capsule in fake Sony ECM-DS70p

A few of you may have seen the fake Sony ECM-DS70p all over ebay and Amazon. (If it's under $20, it's fake). http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-Stereo-Condenser-Microphone-Sony-ECM-DS70p-New-/130423503991

So I got one for myself to check it out. Nothing great.

Now my question is, can I open it up & replace the mic capsule with something else to improve the quality? Like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110661607399

This is my first ever attempt at anything like this, feedback would be appreciated. Is it as simple as opening up the fake mic , cutting off or desoldering the capsules & soldering the new ones?

I would not say it's a fake as it's not being sold as a Sony and there is no Sony logo on it.

Selling a fake is illegal.

Selling a cheap copy, as this seems to be, is OK.

But it's so cheap as to be ridiculous - I would expect to pay more than that for the 3.5mm plug alone!

How is that Panasonic mic capsule significantly different than what is in the generic stereo mic gadget?
I have examined both of them and there is no noticeable difference in appearance, construction or materials.
The capsules in the little stereo mic are smaller than the Panasonic. In fact the WM-61 is probably too large to even fit into the stereo gadget case.
Besides, the concept of placing two omni capsules an inch apart (not to mention right up against the recorder) is little more than a mechanical convenience.
I can't think of any recording performance reason we would want to put two omni capsules essentially cheek by jowl?

I was assuming that my replacing the capsules the audio quality would improve. The current fake one is a bit tinny sounding.

This sounds like a lot of trouble with a highly uncertain outcome to improve what is, after all, a very cheap piece of equipment. Why not buy a genuine Sony or a better microphone to begin with?

I was thinking the same thing. To me, it's not worth the time and money to try and make a shoddy piece of equipment better. My time is valuable, and if I have to spend more than 15 minutes on making something better, then I'll just buy the better quality thing.

I have a Audio-Technica ATR-3350 & a $50 eBay Shotgun mic, just thought I'd fool around with the fake stuff. Appreciate the feedback, I guess it'll be left as is :)

Right off the bat, your choice of capsules that will fit inside that case could very well range somewhere between slim and none. The "standard size" Panasonic and equivalent capsules (such as the WM-61) are too large to fit into that case.
