I recently had a producer on my shoot drop my 8" Panasonic monitor..... I barely got a "oops" in typical producer fashion. The repair for such a mistake is $2,300. They are paying for it and all is well but it got me considering why I bother buying the $200 custom fit Porta Brace case that doesn't provide any impact protection. Producers are producers and I shouldn't expect them to suddenly start treating my equipment with the respect it deserves. For protection the porta brace is a joke. But a pelican is the same shape as the monitor anyhow.
I was considering placing the monitor in a pelican with a portion of the back cut out to allow for battery and connections and the front cut out to view the screen. Why have I never seen this before and why are we bothering with porta brace?
