Moderately Priced Matte Box/Filter Sets

[Alex Fuchs]

At the bootcamp there was some suggestion of good $500-800 Matte box choices with another $300-400 for the four main filters. Chrosziel seem to start at the $1,500 range. Any body have suggestions for a good value/price arrangement MBox + Filter combination in the $1,000 range?

Also, anyone know whether, for those of us contemplating a 35mm adapter, the decision to get a Matte Box is moot until we get them since there may be adaptability/alignement issues once the 35mm adapter is attached?

Thanks in advance

This is the cheapest you can really get away with.

You'll need this to attach to your UV filter.

If you go cheaper you'll just end up replacing it in a year or two.

Thanks evin.
Is there much of a step up to the next Chrosziel matte?
Abel has the next one but not the one you mention.
I don't want to go super-cheapo but the use of it (for me) is really to use ND filters to collapse the F-stop latitude (and avoid burn in highlights) when shooting outside.

My 41150 setup cost about $1400 without the rods.
here it is from B&H.

You need to get the HVX rods and an 85mm adapter ring but they should be able to substitute so the cost is the same.

So are people staying away from Cavision?
