Model Rates

Wondering what a reasonable rate would be for a model for a small straightforward photo shoot (headshots mostly) I'd want someone with experience but don't need anyone too established or whos rates are inflated. Thoughts? Is Model Mayhem the best online resource?

Why not check for local talent in your area so you are not paying air fair and hotel.

I guess there is a scale of experience/release

free swap for pictures
free swap for pictures+you give them $50 for food/transport
$300/day no release semi pro
$400/day semi professional - might get a release for istock
$1000/day semi-full pro with licence to use with release for commercial shoot
$100000/day fame/pro model+ commercial release

Ive done head shots for many people (I have a photography business in the Chicago area) and my rates were pretty straightforward. I would charge a session fee of 150, and for every picture they want I charged an additional 75 and I included the digital negatives for that price. It's a lot cheaper than usual, and if the client doesn't like the images than they didn't risk much. If I went to them I would add travel and time for that based on how much of a PITA it all was.

Honestly, you can get models to shoot for free and it's not hard. Contact local agencies and say you want to test shoot. Or you can make ads on cl and say what you want to do. Also create that Model Mayhem page.
