.MOD files and FCP

Hello to everybody,

I've been googling about the title of this post and all the answers seem to be "convert that into .MOV and edit it"...

Since .MOD are plain MPG files, we can change the extension and easily read those files in OS, can't be those MPG files be edited without the hassle of conversion?

I don't know if this is a somewhat ridiculous question, but I'm a newbie with hard drive based cameras so any help will be much appreciated.

Nope- you need to convert if you want to use things like .MOV or .MPG in FCP. That's just the way it is...

Pretty much the same reason you have to use unleaded instead of diesel or put on pants one leg at a time...
