I work at an institution that is making some short (5-8 minute) informational/educational videos for the local community. The videos will be put up at the company's web site. I've shot some behind-the-scenes footage of the cast and crew (my coworkers).
This week I'm going to shoot some interviews for a mockumentary: "The Making Of ..."
My question is about setting up the back-drop for the interviews. This will be a one-camera shoot and I plan to have the interviewees sit in a chair with a mic over their heads just out of the view of the camera. The questions will be asked just as voice overs. I plan to cut away to some of the sillier behind the scene shots and even some of the real video during the interviews. The only audience is for those of us involved in the project, but I'd still like to make it seem "real" with faux electro-pop background music to give it that effect.
I have a reasonably sized room that has enough space for some lighting, but I only have one inexpensive dim-able halogen 1000W spot with a softbox. The room has in-ceiling fluorescent lights and their bulbs are not changeable.
The other limitation is for the background of the interviews. I'd like to shoot medium shots for the interviews showing the chest and up or even close-ups. There is a free-standing movie screen available in the room that is large enough to be the backdrop for the interviews. Alternatively, I could get a slightly faded black bedsheet to drape over the movie screen.
Any suggestions on how best to set up the backdrop and light for the interviews would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
