Mock Teaser Tailer

I started working with AE CS3 and tried my hand at creating a teaser for Adam's Corrado, from the User Films threads. I used a poster he had on the site and some stills. Adam is ok with this project.

Looking for some critiques on AE techniques and suggestions for improvement.

So...I posted this a couple days ago and I haven't a single response from the After Effects crowd. Maybe its a subtle hint for me to stay out of After Effects or maybe everyone is shy around here. Can't really tell without feedback, so I thought I'd offer some examples of feedback for you to choose from, in descending order:

1. Perfect! No room for improvement! The new Andrew Kramer!!!

2. I liked it. Nice job!

3. It was good. Too bad you didn't have some footage....

4. It was...OK. Looks like you have a nice hobby. Keep workin' on it.

5. I was bored. I'm still bored.

6. Don't quit your day job. Seriously!

7. Can I get back the 60 seconds you just stole from me?!!!

8. Oh...so, that really is you in the picture...I get it. Light the torches!!!!

Of course, feel free to make up your own comments.

I didnt see the thread. Now that I see it, here goes.

It's aaiight. I am not a fan of what looks like blatant VCP copies. I think too many people take the VCP tutorials and are never able to apply the techniques to something other than what they just learned in the tutorial. For me, they are just an example of how to use some tools, but almost always, those tools are only used exactly as shown in the tutorial. This is like that, for me. Yes, you slightly veered off, but it is still too close.

What I DID like is how it all comes down to being the poster just before the end. I wasnt expecting that. (I assume it's the poster - I haven't read the thread for the film or seen any artwork.)

I didnt like the shotgun pump at the end, although I did like the punctuation it created.

Along with my color coded response, that is it.

GageFX,

Yeah, you're right about VCP. Those tuts are where I'm at on my learning curve so far, but I agree its mostly an imitation. Just getting the hang of the program so far.

As far as creativity, I think its slow and lacking any real punch. I added the shotgun at the end, cheesy as it is, to put a simple end on the thing.

The poster was mostly what I had to work with, plus a few stills.

Thanks for the comments. It's useful to know where the bar is on this stuff.

I'll take a 4 rating from you any day....

I also enjoyed how it turned out to be the poster right before the end. I wasn't expecting it either. Certainly some good things in there and I'm sure you are learning as you go which is great!
