Yes before someone yells to do a forum search, I did do a forum search... still, would like official clarification. www.sound-room.com i heard one person say and another agree is 100% official, no getting bamboozled into a sneakly chinese knockoff. Just want to make sure, if I decide to get it., wont be any sad suprises. Not that the chinese knock offs are completey THAT terrible...

And I found my answer, talking to person PM. So. Yeah. Sound-room is the prime place for Oktava. Sorry for starting a new thread =(

I just received my brand new "Oktava" from the Sound Room and according to this link it's a fake. A damn good fake but a fake none the less. It has no serial number for starters..... I WILL be giving the sound room a call!:furious3: :kali:

What? You gotta' be kidding me... can you take a digi-pic and post it for us? Or else email it to me and I'll post it? I'm sorry but I don't believe it... there must be some mistake.

Everything shown at that link isn't a matter of "if you're mic is missing any of these details it's a fake." Look at the fake Oktava... look at the cap and the mount... all that on the counterfiet... is yours like that?

Just so everybody knows the facts... these are not being counterfieted like money... there are only two Oktavas... the real thing or the fake chinese one... The chinese are not sneaking genuine Oktava mounts into the otherwise fake Oktavas... please look at ALL the details which seperate the russian mics from the chinese mics.

I will be posting a picture as soon as I find my #@%$# av cable! Incidently, I just bought this mike. Are you saying it's over 4 years old already?

check out the facts before "crying wolf" :)

I dont know but lets get all the facts first, too many on dvx can vouch for sound-room, but show the pics when you get em and any other reason you have for it being fake. And what Paul has to say if it is confirmed a fake.

Paul sells out of mics ALL the time and has to replace them ALL the time... he didn't sell an old one either. There MUST be a logical explanation. I've bought a bunch of Oktava from Paul... and all I ever got was the exact deal that all of you got... 5% off... and I didn't get that until the THIRD Oktava that I bought... so I don't speak highly of sound-room because there's anything at all in it for me... I just think they are good people running a small pro shop and competing VERY EFFECTIVELY with the big guys... that's why I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Post a pic of the inside of the mic where the cap meets the body... open it and face those insides to the cam... take that pic... that will tell you everything there is to know.

I cann't get my pictures to upload to my website, so I will email them to you when I get home tonight. I did leave the Sound Room a voicemail, I'll let you know how it works out.

This is my first post and I would first of all like to say “thank you” to everyone here. The people here have been so good to us and your continued support of the Sound Room is greatly appreciated, even more than I could ever put in words.

We are a small company. It’s just myself and my brother Ben, with the continued assistance of Taylor Johnson. Taylor started this company 8 years ago in response to a need in the recording community for a good sounding inexpensive condenser microphone. For those of you that remember, an under $200 condenser mic just didn't exist. It is through the hard work of Taylor and our partners in Moscow that helped give the Oktava MK012 a much respected name with recording engineers, especially here in the USA. In brief we became known for offering stereo pairs of genuine Russian made Oktava microphones that were selected by us, tested by us, and matched by us. And all backed up with our own two year warranty.

We always have, and always will provide new genuine Russian-made (manufactured at the plant in Tula) Oktava microphones.

Without going over old news (please check out the archives at debris.com for a good detailed account of the story) the Chinese fakes were apparently made at the request of the former worldwide distributor. The only place that one was able to purchase these fakes in the USA were at a big musical instrument chain we all know. This was however unknown to them and when they were made aware of this, they pulled all stock of the fakes.

At the moment there are, I believe, only two places in the USA to purchase genuine Oktavas and one of those places is from me at The Sound Room.

I spoke with safarijoe earlier and hopefully resolved the situation to his satisfaction. He in fact does have a genuine Oktava, just with no serial number.

The truth is, not all MK012’s (or MC012’s as they were once called) have serial numbers and we still do get some without serial numbers. Yes, according to Oktava “MK-012 microphones manufactured before 2002 don't have serial numbers”, but that apparently does not mean that all MK012’s manufactured after 2002 have serial numbers.

Oktava changed the design of the microphone in 2005 (probably to counter the Chinese fakes). The new design has a 5mm longer body and the capsule edge is slightly rounded on the top. And, yes, these new ones 90% of the time seem to have serial numbers. Those of you that have purchased the black ones (which I affectionately dubbed bello nero) from us will mostly have this new longer design, though some black ones made are still of the shorter “old” style. I know this is confusing, and I wish I could give a better explanation. My guess is that is will sometime later this year before all older style parts are finished and all of the Oktava microphones we sell will be of the “new” longer design.

Be aware of how to spot the fakes. The page is at oktava.tula.net/fake. The giveaways are the 3 screws that hold the body together, the contact point on the body, and the contact pin on the capsule. The fakes look nothing like the genuine article in these areas. I asked safarijoe to post pictures of his mic here. You will see that his is the real deal.

Sorry, for the longish post. I just wanted to try and clear this up. We have always dealt in genuine Russian Oktavas.

I do hope to have your continued support. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please email or call anytime.

All the best,
Paul Kezmarsky

I just want to say that I spoke to Paul today and I am satisfied that what he sold me is the real deal. Although there were some differences between my mike and what's shown on the website, Paul explained those discrepencies and even offered to replace the mike or refund my money if I still had any doubts. I am now joining the ranks of Pauls' dedicated supporters. I told Paul that he has many glowing recommendations form the folks on this board and I can now understand why. Good job Paul and thanks.:dankk2:

Hi, Im one of those shy guys who have made this forum our ONLY source of guidance and enlightenment but have stubbornly reserved the dreaded Newbie posts until painful lessons of us being so hits us hard in the face. Suffice it to say that after i have collected all DVX editions from the original to the B, im still persistently humbled by a lot of things i dont know and wouldnt mind being called a newbie.

and now my short question;

I'm in France and i'm just a click away from getting my first oktavas from their European site . Should i be worried ?

If by "European site" you mean www-oktava-online.com, go ahead and buy with confidence. I'm based in Italy and I can spend but great words about their service. If the website doesnt show up the mic setup you need, just ask: they'll be willing to make any mix 'n match according to your requirements. You'll get a VAT invoice (that's 16% off if your VAT registered) and a two-year EC warranty as well.

Salut

Hi, Im one of those shy guys who have made this forum our ONLY source of guidance and enlightenment...

Last month, I also used this forum as a reference to stop my choice on The Sound Room and a MK 012. I received a genuine one and the quality is great.

Thanks Paul.

Thanks, Lutnik, I just emailed them. Im getting the boxed sets with 3 caps. Cardioid, hyper and omni directional. I dont remember the omni cap being discussed in any of the threads, but maybe its not available there in the US in that package.
