Mixpre / Tascam dp-01 fx mixer

I know many of you own a mixpre. My question is can the Tascam dp-01 fx do
the same job as the mixpre? What is the difference between the two and
yes, I am at the bottom rung of this audio ladder, learning about each item
as I go. Only way I know to learn is to ask.

Well looking at it you can probably run your mikes from it because of it's phantom powered...but it seems to be more of a all-in-one box versus a mixpre. Another note is that the output is rca analog vs XLR or 1/4 outs that is more on a pro level. but with the S/pdif you can output to a DAT. Also you have USB to transfer data to your computer and it will be digital but you will need to sync it manually into your NLE later. Try to use some kind of click/clap before to sync it up to any video in post.
