Mixing Tape Brands in Cam vs. Deck

Hello. In a previous post, I inquired about what tapes to use in the Pannie and I understood that it's best not to mix tape brands or else! But I also have a Sony DSR-11 in which I've used mostly Sony tapes in the past. Now I'm switching to the Panasonic MQ Series for the camera, and I'm sure that I'll have other brands as well when I freelance and get tapes from clients. Will this be a problem for my deck? If not then why is it a problem in the Pannie?

Also, is there a recommendation/advice for those head cleaners you find--the tapes you're supposed to run in the cam or deck for about 10 secs.
