Mixing stereo promo video to play before 5.1 feature on blu-ray / dvd

I need to create a screener for a feature where I have discrete 5.1 channels from the sound mixer as well as a stereo lt rt.

However, I need to place some promo clips before the feature for which I only have straight stereo audio.

How do I make it so that the promo clips sound correct, but the feature does as well?

My first attempt at this was just putting the stereo promo clips before the stereo lt rt feature on the same timeline, but this resulted in the feature sounding fine, but the promo clips being squashed to center channel when playing back through a pro logic system.

I am considering placing all of the discrete channels in the FCP timeline, and then placing the stereo clips in front of the L and R channels of the 5.1 feature and exporting each individual track to put back together in the Compressor Surround Sound panel.

Is there a better way?

Do I also need to be putting something in the C channel?

If Prologic moved the "stereo" tracks center then they are mono, or mostly mono. Just because there are two tracks doesn't make them stereo. And yes you can stick them on the discrete tracks L & R and they will play LR even if they are mono. No you don't need anything on any channel. Since this is mono you could put it on the center channel also.
