Mixing Sound

So my new film is pretty much done. I just need to mix all of the sound properly. I hear the standard db level is -12. Correct? And also I'm having a hard time mixing the sound. When I double click on the clip I want to adjust, It highlights the clip in the viewer. My question is what are the two differen't channels for, left and right? How can I just make it one channel so I can adjust the clip all at once? Should I do that? I know I probably sound retarted but oh well, Any help would be appreciated..

Have you thought about outputing an OMF and giving it to a post sound person? They could accomplish a lot more for you. They could use something like ProTools and give it a much better sweetening. Even just going out to Soundtrack Pro yourself might offer you a better solution. Just a thought.

As for your deal, when you say the L/R channels, if you double click on a clip, and when it loads in the viewer, does it say Mono or Stereo? If its mono, then all your audio are mono pairs. What you can do there is highlight your clips, then go to Modify > Stereo Pair. Now when you adjust a clip you'll be adjusting both channels at once. Another trick, if you're not keyframing anything, and all you're doing is just adjusting the gain, use the Gain Adjust dialog shortcut and when the clip is highlighted just press Apple + Option + L (if you haven't changed it). Quick way to fly through the timeline. Good luck.

cheers.
