mixing framerates in FCP 6 --is that all there is to it

with FCP 6 being able to mix framerates in real time on a single timeline, we are wondering....

1. when we, lets say, dump some 30i cilips into a 23.98 timeline (about 10% of our clips were done in 30i) does this mean that nothing further needs to be done,,,that is, no furher rendering, no applying of after market filters, no deinterlacing--- ?

2. and if that is so...t(hat FCP thinks the clips are now compatible and matched in their "look" .)..is the resulting quality equal to that achieved by filters, etc. ?

thanks in advance for all the pro assistance this site offers... !

When you put the first clip down into the time line it will ask you weather you want to change the sequence settings to match this clip, or weather to keep the sequence setting as it is. From then on, any other clips will sit in the viewer without any problems. Its not as easy as it sounds though, if you have an HD timeline and drop an SD clip into it, the SD clip will sit in the middle of a massive HD frame. The frame rates should be ok however, they may need rendering once to 'transcode' the frame rate but after that it should be ok....

what about the "Look" of the combined frame rate clips..for example, are 3oi clips "automatically" made to look more film like..deinterlaced etc... ? or does further work need to be done...?

(you may have already answered that...i am just not sure what "transcode" means).
thanks for the quick reply..............

The footage looks like what it looks like when it comes off the camera, if something is 24p and the sequence is 50i or whatever, it will transcode the 24p to 50i.... Transcode is when it either removes or duplicates frames to bring it up or down to the required frame rate (i think, could be something else though, dont quote me on it)
