curious to get some advice...

im putting together a reel of work
have a few different formats....

XDCAM 1080p 24fps
DVCPRO 960x720 59fps
HDV 1440x1080 29.97fps
DV 720x480 29.97fps

im looking for the highest quality output
what settings would be ideal in this situation?

thanks!

Well, this begs the question then, what WILL you be outputting to? XDCAM and HDV are acquisiton formats only...no one delivers that as a master. DVCPRO HD can be delivered as a master, although it is rare. HDCAM and D5 and HDCAM SR are the HD deliverables. And then there's Blu-Ray.

So...what are you delivering?

What format of a QT file? 720p? 1080i? Codec? 23.98? 29.97? Need specifics in order to steer in the right direction.

sorry. appreciate your input!
the only specs i got was "best quality" i can deliver.

they can handle uncompressed HD if i can go that high.
i wasnt 100% clear if i should/can deliver uncompresed HD

other things to note:
*i didnt ingest any footage with a card (used XD transfer/P2 cards/firewire ingests)
*im running FCP 5

someone suggested doing a 1080 p 59fps sequence
(and conforming all the files to that spec)

What format do you have the most footage of? There's a lot of frame rates and formats in there that don't combine too well. Also I'd highly recommend upgrading to FCP6 asap for the multi format timeline. Otherwise you'll need to render everything to the chosen editing format before you can even start editing.

Fortunatly the entire running time is only 3 min.

35% DVCPRO HD
30% XDCAM
20% HDV
15% DV

I did an edit in a DV sequence 29.97 without any problems
but that was downconverting all the HD footage....

Maybe i should do an edit with the DVCPRO sequence?
Upgrading isnt an option, as I just bought a monitor
(unfortunatly)

I vote for making the timelline DVCPRO HD 720p 59.94 and getting the other footage to match that. Then you'll have to export out as Uncompressed 8-bit HD(all those formats are 8-bit format...XDCAM too, right Noah?). Exporting a DVCPRO HD file won't work as the that is a proprietary codec that requires FCP to be installed to see. Same with XDCAM. Send them a test clip and see if they can open it. Always test.

Hmm- still kinda depends- is it mostly 60i or 24p or but 720p 60 is likely to be the most common denominator.
