mixing footage

Well are you talking about Super 8 film or Hi8 video? Either way you'll need to eventually dub them onto a DV tape and then you can edit along with other DV material.

Try and track down the Sony GVD800. Great little device for Digital 8, Hi8, and Video 8. Has firewire out, so using FCP you can just use the Capture Now ability and easily ingest footage (set it to the DV codec and it will cut smoothly with your other stuff). And if you have a camera that will play nice, you can do as Noah suggested and put it onto a miniDV cassette (which is a good idea so you'll have timecode and make it a bit more easy to access). Good luck.

cheers.
