Mixing board for FCP

Hey Folks

I am starting to find the need for a programable mixing board for FCP and soundtrack. I am thinking at least 6-8 tracks. What is out there for a reasonable price. Really does not need any balanced inputs (although it would be nice). Just firewire or USB controllable.
Thanks

They added support for Mackie's Control Protocol in FCP 5 - so if you have 5, you could use any Mackie mixer and just input through MIDI. Also a good choice for Soundtrack Pro, btw.
As for USB/Firewire-controllable mixers, I don't know if Final Cut supports them. You'd probably want to check with a Guru on creativecow or something before blowing too much money on one.

What is your ultimate goal for the mixer? Are you wanting to use it to control Soundtrack? Are you just looking for some way to record into Soundtrack? Are you looking for MIDI? There are different ways to go depending on what you really want/need.
I use a Tascam US-122 to record (XLR and 1/4" inputs, phantom power, MIDI). It has no programmable sliders, but it gets the job done and is portable.

I am using a M-Audio Project Mix. I just installed it and I am working with a sound engineer. I see the limitations of the Soundtrack pro software right away. The control surface works pretty well, but not enough to warrant buying a $1000. piece of gear to move a few sliders and buttons.

The main thing we noticed was there are only 2 inputs in Soundtrack. This knocks the software out of usefulness for me. It appears that Apple would like to sell other sound software and has put limits on ST to keep the wheels of commerce well lubricated.

I have ordered Pro-tools M-powered. This will give me a lot more control over sound and I will be able to do multi-track sound acquisition as well. The dealer I bought it from had a $150. coupon, which made the final price $850. The Pro-tools was $250. So for $1100. it should beat the crap out of the Digi 002 package at $1900. The Project Mix is an awesome surface. I like it much better than the 002. plus it will work with most any software.
